Akshay Vat

Akshay Vat, or the "Indestructible Banyan Tree," is a sacred and ancient tree located in the heart of gaya. It holds profound spiritual significance and is revered by pilgrims and seekers of wisdom from across the world. Steeped in mythology and history, Akshay Vat is considered a symbol of eternal life, resilience, and the enduring power of nature.

Akshay Vat is deeply rooted in Hindu mythology. It is believed to be the same tree under which Lord Rama, along with Sita and Lakshmana, sought refuge during their exile. According to another legend, this tree is mentioned in the sacred scriptures as the place where Lord Brahma, the creator of the universe, conducted a yagna (sacrificial ritual). The tree is also associated with the story of the great sage Markandeya, who witnessed the cosmic dissolution (Pralaya) while meditating under the Akshay Vat and saw the entire universe within the body of Lord Vishnu.

Visitors to Akshay Vat engage in various spiritual practices, such as circumambulation (pradakshina) around the tree, offering prayers, and meditating in its peaceful shade. The atmosphere around the tree is charged with positive energy, and many believe that simply sitting under its vast canopy can bring about a sense of inner peace and spiritual awakening. Festivals and religious ceremonies are also held here, attracting large numbers of devotees who come to seek the blessings of this sacred tree.
